# Server Backups & Disaster Recovery

Human error, malicious bot compromises, or rogue administrators can devastate months of channel structuring and permission calibration. MyProtect's **Backup & Disaster Recovery Engine** gives server owners complete peace of mind through encrypted, point-in-time snapshots.

## What Gets Backed Up

MyProtect snapshots the complete logical topology of your Discord server:

* **Roles & Permissions**: Full role hierarchy, display colors, hoist states, and granular permission bitfields.
* **Channels & Categories**: Text, voice, forum, and announcement channels, organized with exact parent-child relations and topic strings.
* **Permission Overwrites**: Every custom channel overwrite for specific roles and individual members.
* **Server Metadata**: Guild icon, splash, banner, AFK channel/timeout, verification tier, and system channel pointers.

> [!NOTE]
>
> In accordance with Discord Privacy Policies and GDPR standards, message history and member files are never included in structural backups. Only server configuration structures are preserved.

## Managing Backups via Slash Commands

```bash theme={null}
# Create a manual snapshot now
/backup create [name:pre-event-snapshot]
# List all available snapshots for your guild
/backup list
# Restore a snapshot to production
/backup load [backup_id:bk_01h8...]
```

## Automated Backup Schedules

Through the Next.js Web Dashboard, administrators can configure **Automated Backups**:

* **Daily Snapshots**: Captures server state every 24 hours (retaining the last 7 daily points).
* **Weekly Archives**: Persistent recovery points maintained for 30 days.
* **Pre-Update Guard**: Automatic snapshot created whenever significant channel or role modifications are performed through DAC v2.
